LJN Toys, Ltd.

LJN made toys and later added software to their company products. They had been sold to MCA/Universal in 1986 and then later sold again in 1988. During the 1970s, LJN made lines based off of popular TV Shows such as SWAT, The Rookies, and Emergency! LJN had some interesting features in their figures that Mego did not. LJN was the first to introduce a body that had a swivel in the middle of the bicep for better arm posability. This body type had the standard hinged wrist like their Mego counterparts. They also introduced a wrist and ankle joint with a ball and socket type arrangement. The NON-bicep swivel arm had this joint.

8 inch SWAT figures
Hondo Deacon Luca McCabe Street
8" SWAT Vehicles & Playsets
SWAT Van SWAT Playset

Based on the popular television show of the 1970s, (can you hear the theme song playing? I can still remember it vividly to this day!) this line of action figures came bubble carded. They all came in the same outfit and on the same card. A gold sticker with the character's name was added to the front of the bubble to distinguish each figure. The head used for Luca is the same head mold shared by the Talbot Ninja.

8" The Rookies - figures
Lt. Riker Mike Terry Chris
8" The Rookies Vehicles & Playsets
Police Car Accessory Set

The Rookies was another popular prime time television show from the 70s based on public servants. As with the SWAT line, they all came in the same outfit and on the same card. A gold sticker with the character's name was added to the front of the bubble to distinguish each figure.

8" Emergency figures
John (black card) Roy (black card) John (red card) Roy (red card)
8" Emergency Vehicles & Playsets
Firehouse Firetruck Accessory Set

"EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!..Rampart, we read you, over!" Another great 1970s classic based on a fire department, but mainly focusing on John and Roy who not only put out fires, but also get cats out of trees and help scraped knees for young skateboarders. Notice the two different cards (black & red). On one set they are smiling and wear all blue, but on the red carded figures, the facial expressions are different and Roy sports his tan jacket.
